Consultation

In short

A doctor–patient encounter where the clinician takes history, examines, diagnoses and advises treatment.

Clinical & hospital operations

A consultation is the clinical encounter in which a doctor takes the patient history, examines the patient, arrives at a working diagnosis, and advises investigations, medication or follow-up. It is the central event of an OPD visit, and it is what produces the prescription and any lab or referral orders that follow from it.

Why it matters in a hospital

The consultation is where clinical judgement actually happens, and it is repeated dozens of times a day per doctor in a busy OPD — so the screen a doctor works from has to keep pace with that, not slow it down with unnecessary clicks. It is also the record that everything else in the encounter depends on being accurate: the pharmacy dispenses against the prescription written here, the bill is generated against what was actually done, and any follow-up visit starts from this note. Multiplied across dozens of doctors and hundreds of daily visits, even small friction in this one screen — an extra field, a slow save, a confusing layout — adds up to real lost time across the hospital's whole day.

How Trisvio handles it

Trisvio's consultation screen records the chief complaint, vitals, diagnosis and prescription against the patient's encounter and prints the prescription directly, so the doctor's notes, the pharmacy order and the bill line up with what was actually decided in the room rather than being re-keyed separately in each department. The same screen supports both a first visit and a routine follow-up, so a returning patient's past diagnoses and prescriptions are visible to the doctor without having to be searched for separately.
