The Outpatient Department (OPD) is where patients come for consultation, diagnosis and treatment without an overnight stay. A typical visit flows from registration and token issue, through the doctor consultation, and on to billing, pharmacy or lab as needed — often all in a single trip to the hospital.
Why it matters in a hospital
OPD is the highest-volume, most repeated activity in most Indian hospitals — it accounts for the large majority of daily patient footfall, far more than admissions, and it is where most patients form their first impression of how well the hospital runs. A slow or error-prone step anywhere in that flow compounds across dozens of patients a day, while a fast, accurate one gives front-desk staff, doctors and patients a workable rhythm even on a busy morning. This is also why OPD design choices — how many clicks it takes to register a walk-in, whether a doctor can find yesterday’s prescription without switching screens — have an outsized effect on a hospital’s real-world efficiency compared with features that get used only occasionally.
How Trisvio handles it
In Trisvio, the OPD module ties registration, the patient's UHID, vitals capture, consultation, prescription and billing into a single encounter, so a receptionist or nurse can move a patient from check-in to consultation without re-entering details already on file, and the doctor's prescription prints directly from the consultation record. This is deliberately one connected workflow rather than several separate screens a receptionist would otherwise have to reconcile by hand at the end of a shift.
