Revenue Leakage

In short

Money a hospital earned but never collected — work done that was never billed, or billed and released without payment.

Revenue leakage is the gap between care delivered and money received, and it is distinct from bad debt. Bad debt is billed and uncollected; leakage includes work that never reached a bill at all — a consultation not charged, medicine handed over on credit and forgotten, a test reported while the bill still had a balance, a discharge cleared without the balance settled.

Why it matters in a hospital

Leakage is hard to see precisely because nothing records it: the missing charge leaves no trace, so it cannot appear on any report built from charges. That is why it is usually discovered as a vague sense that collections do not match activity, rather than as a number. It is also rarely dishonesty — it is a busy counter, an undefined follow-up rule, a patient sent straight through to a doctor. The fix is structural rather than disciplinary: make the clinical event create the financial obligation, so that not charging becomes a recorded decision rather than an absence.

How Trisvio handles it

Trisvio creates the consultation charge in the same transaction as the visit, so an encounter cannot exist without either a charge or a recorded waiver, and it records an exception with a reason whenever medicine or a test is released against an outstanding balance. Each of the four leaks is a live counter with a working queue behind it rather than a figure reconstructed at month-end.
