Cost Estimate

In short

A pre-treatment document giving the patient the projected cost of a planned procedure or admission before it begins.

A cost estimate is a projected costing given to a patient before a planned procedure or admission, listing the expected room, surgery, consumables and investigation charges so they can plan their finances or seek insurance pre-authorisation before treatment starts. It is not a final bill — actual charges can vary with the patient's condition and how long the stay ends up being.

Why it matters in a hospital

For a family weighing a planned surgery, a realistic estimate is often the difference between proceeding with confidence and delaying care out of financial uncertainty they can't quantify. It is also frequently a document insurers or TPAs require before granting cashless pre-authorisation, so a hospital that can't produce one quickly can hold up an otherwise-approved admission. An estimate that turns out to be significantly wrong also carries a reputational cost even when the variance is clinically justified — families tend to remember being surprised by the bill more than they remember the fine print explaining why it changed.

How Trisvio handles it

Trisvio does not have a dedicated pre-admission cost-estimate tool; for an admitted patient it shows a running "bill so far" and can print a provisional interim bill during the stay, but there is no formal pre-treatment estimate document or insurer pre-authorisation workflow built into the product. A hospital that relies heavily on pre-admission estimates for planned surgeries would need to prepare that document manually, outside the system, before the patient is admitted.
